Composing
Kion Heidari is a composer for film/media based in Los Angeles, California. He has written music for numerous animated and live action short films, some of which have been screened at renowned festivals (such as the CalArts Character Animation Producers’ Show). In addition, he has composed for video games, stage productions, and concerts. Known for his musical versatility and storytelling prowess, Kion can rise to any compositional challenge.
Formal Education
In 2020, Kion graduated from the California Institute of the Arts with a BFA in music composition, specializing in film/video scoring. While there, he honed his craft and collaborated with many film and animation students. During his time at CalArts, he studied with established composers such as Karen Tanaka, Matthias Weber, and Peter Golub, all of whom have helped elevate Kion to his true potential.
Early Childhood
Though he took piano lessons at an early age, Kion’s true journey started at age 10, when he was cast in his first stage musical. Not long after, he was playing the trumpet in bands and orchestras and singing in choirs. At age 14, Kion began playing the tin whistle, an instrument he now actively uses in his musical works. He began composing at age 15 after waking up one morning and, on a whim, decided to give it a try. His passion for writing music to picture came shortly after, merging his love of both music and film.
